Hija De Tu Madre

I created this image last year. It was inspired by many stories of the Salem Witch Trials, Mayan sacrifices, Greek tragedies, and other stories of women being reduced to nothing. Most of all, it was inspired by my Mamma. Even though many have tried, the assholes have yet to take her down. Then, she spawned me. I may not know much about my ancestral lineage, but I do know I am direct descendent of a badass. So, my work is cut out for me to raise my baby girl to level up beyond us. More than anything, we’re all survivors. The purpose of this image was to show that even with the constant oppression, the lineage continues.

There are people in our surroundings that like to call my Mamma “bruja.” You know, because apparently that’s a big ol’ insult. Being my Mom’s daughter makes me guilty by association. My Mom and I don’t see eye to eye on very much, but my loyalty to her does not waver. If I were to be burned at the stake for such an association, then so be it.

Honestly, the people who say these things are making us sound way cooler than we actually are. I mean, if I had any kind of mystic powers to bend reality in my favor, I think that’d be freakin’ awesome! I’d curse all foes to have explosive diarrhea, and they’d only be able to eat crunchy shell tacos. Not real Mexican street tacos! Ha! I’d be the worst!

No, but seriously, if my Mom or I had any “magical abilities” or special deals with the “dark lord,” you think we’d be broke, common, aging, and struggling? Seriously.

So Happy International Women’s Day! May we keep rising! #mujereschingonas
