Alley Food: Bowlero San Antonio

My husband Vince, is quite the avid bowler. He’s been doing it for a very long time. In the last couple of years he’s been working towards professional bowler status. This means putting in more practice time, joining more leagues, and participating in more tournaments. A good portion of the tournaments are held out of town in different bowling alleys.

I’m happy to support my husband in this activity he loves. So whenever I can, I tag along to cheer him on at whatever bowling alley he goes to. And of course, I don’t turn away a chance at a cool road trip!

Let’s get one thing clear – I am NOT a bowler. I suck at bowling. So while Vince is doing his bowling thang, I get to do the other things offered at most bowling alleys: Have me some cold-ass beer and eat! Bowling alleys have so much deep-fried and grilled deliciousness! So I’ve decided I want to review some of the great eats I find at bowling alleys I travel to. I will lovingly call this thread, “Alley Food.”

First up, Bowlero San Antonio.

Vince is participating in an online bowling tournament. Since we were heading to San Antonio for spring break, he found a bowling alley in San Antonio that is a venue for the tournament. There are two Bowleros in San Antonio. We went to the one on San Pedro because it was closer to our hotel.

When we got there of course, my first request was, “Where’s the bar?” The hostess showed me the way and let me know I could order food there. So we got Vince settled and I looked over the menu. They had so much stuff that sounded so good! Garlic parmesan fries, Buffalo wings, pizza, street tacos, and burgers just to give you an idea. I wanted to try it all, but I didn’t want to order a bunch food and overstuff myself. Vince mentioned he was down for splitting something with me. We agreed on the Nacho Avalanche because nachos always hit good with beer!

So I got my beer when I ordered, and let me just say, I love it when a bar has Dos XX on tap. And I totally appreciated that they had the option of the small or big mugs. Of course, I went with the big.

A nice cold-ass beer.

When we got our nachos, I was really excited to dig in. Presentation goes a long way with me, and these nachos definitely looked pretty. I really liked that these tortilla chips were freshly fried and not straight from a bag. Also, I really liked that they used seasoned salt on these chips because that just gives tortilla chips a little something extra! Hidden underneath the top layer, there was a generous helping of seasoned ground beef and extra queso. The queso was creamy and had the perfect thickness. So it didn’t make the nachos soggy right away. And they did not hold back on the sour cream and jalapeños. Heck yeah dude! There was a side of salsa that didn’t taste like it came out of a can. It was really close to the salsa I make at home. It went perfect with these nachos! As for the size of the whole plate, it was perfect for Vince and I to share. We even had some left over! These nachos were freakin’ good!

This plate was huge.
This photo doesn’t do these nachos justice.

After I finished eating, Aria wanted to play the arcade games. This Bowlero had a pretty good-sized arcade. What really stood out is that they had a prize store. So you can trade in your game points for prizes. I put $30 on a game card for Aria, but we both played all the games for over an hour. I didn’t know it at the time, but on Wednesdays, games are half-price. It was a lot of gaming and my baby girl had a great time!

Some of Aria’s arcade loot.

So in conclusion, we had some good food and a lovely family evening at this bowling alley, and not too pricey. Seriously, with bowling, food, arcade, and ALL my beer (I had a lot), we spent less than $100. We went on a Wednesday and apparently they have a sorts of specials that night like unlimited bowling! There was something for all of us. The Bowlero San Antonio will definitely be on our list of places to visit on future trips to the city!

The end to a fun family evening!
