We waited a while before we had a child. Seriously. We were almost mid-thirties. So now being in our 40’s and having a young child, well, it has its days. There are days we have all the motivation to do all the things for our child because she’s so full of energy and everything is so new. Then, there are days when we’re just exhausted because we’re not as young and energetic as other parents with kids this age. We might think we’re still cool, but the truth is – we’re old dude!
Sometimes it takes a lot of effort to get out of bed. We have to remind ourselves this is the only child we’re going to have. We don’t want her to miss out on things because we’re tired. So we’re always looking for community events and other little things Aria will enjoy. It’s really nice to see the joy she gets from us participating in the fun with her.

But with the busy-ness of life, Vince and I still try to have little dinner & drinks dates. We like to sit at the bar and feel like grown-ups. Whenever my Mom is around to babysit, or takes Aria to spend some time at her house, we try to go to movies we can’t take Aria to. Sadly, most of the time we’re home by 11pm. Yeah, we can’t hang anymore.

A few weeks ago, my Mom was around to babysit one weekend, so we went to a car show. Vince went for the cars, I went for the yummies! It was crazy hot and I got sunburned, so we didn’t last long out there. I remember when we were younger, we’d do stuff like that and not even flinch! (BTW, If you’re ever in the Lubbock area, look for Bubba & Brey’s Grilled Cheese food truck! The “I Love It When You Call Me Big Popper” sandwich is the best!)

So last weekend, we got to go to the Ice Cube/Cypress Hill/Bones-Thugs & Harmony concert that rolled through town. It was soooooo much fun! I had never been to a real rap concert. We sang, jumped around, came across lots of people we know, and husband drank way more than usual.

Unfortunately, the next day we were hurtin’! My legs were done from jumping around so much. Vince was out for the count from the hangover. It was a mad reminder that we are so not young anymore. Yup, Sunday was painful for us both, but zero regrets have been had. Besides, it’s not something we get to do every day.

Anyways, we’re trying our hardest to accept age gracefully. We’re trying even harder to be upbeat parents for our child. There are days we feel we’re failing it all. I’m just happy I have the best human to do it all with me! We really do make a great team!
