Over the summer, I got to missing my coffee shop study sessions. The whole time I was in grad school, getting to study while having some yummies was such a big motivator for me.
So when Aria came home, I asked her if she’d like to have some Saturday morning coffee shop dates with me. With my child being a coffee fanatic, of course she was in!
But our coffee shop dates came with conditions. We would not use our dates for mindless doomscrolling. Instead, we would use this time to catch up with each other or do something productive, like doodle, read, research, etc.
Our first coffee shop date was at Sugar Brown’s. I hadn’t been there in years. The last time I went to their new location, the vibe sucked, but the menu was still awesome. This time, I didn’t like anything. Aria, on the other hand, loved all her treats.
While we were there, Aria used the time to doodle some ideas on her phone, and I started a new book that’s been sitting in my Kindle for weeks. We only stayed there for an hour, but we got so much accomplished!

This last week, some stuff went down with Aria’s school. Long story short, we’ve determined she needs some help with her ELAR schoolwork. I decided the best way to help her is to incorporate some study time into our coffee dates. She agreed.
I researched the areas she needed help in, and with the help of ChatGPT, I put together a plan and some fun coursework for her.
We got up early on Saturday morning and headed out. I took her to my favorite coffee shop, All About Cha, because I had never taken her before. We both had a great time, and we got her studies off to a great start!

I’m really happy to be able to do this with my kiddo. I’m looking forward to keeping our coffee shop dates going. Maybe we can’t do this every Saturday, but we’ll squeeze it in as much as possible. It gives me the warm & fuzzies that she’s still okay with hanging out with me. I love being able to spend time with her and having something that’s just ours.
